Immunotherapy

Madisonville Animal Hospital is excited to offer treatment for those animals who suffer from moderate to severe allergies that cause discomfort and pain to pets in the Madisonville, Mandeville, Covington, and Hammond areas. If you notice that your pet constantly bites themselves, scratches and damages their skin while scratching, please call our hospital to set an appointment for an allergy evaluation. There are several types of allergies our pets face including flea allergies, food allergies, atopic dermatitis and environmental allergies. When medically appropriate, Dr. Christine McDonald utilizes an advanced treatment for allergies known as immunotherapy.

Immunotherapy is a treatment program where an animal is injected with small doses of the allergen causing their itch and discomfort, while increasing the dosing over time to help them build a tolerance. Over time, pets can often experience relief and no longer have a serious reaction when exposed to the item which causes them to itch.

If you would like to have your pet evaluated for immunotherapy, please give us a Madisonville Animal Hospital at 985-845-4681. We look forward to welcoming you and your pet to our family!
