Immunotherapy

Madisonville Animal Hospital is excited to offer treatment for pets in the Madisonville, Mandeville, Covington, and Hammond areas who suffer from moderate to severe allergies that cause discomfort and pain. If you notice that your pet is constantly biting, scratching and causing skin damage while scratching, please call our hospital to set an appointment for an allergy evaluation. There are several types of allergies our pets face including flea allergies, food allergies, atopic dermatitis and environmental allergies. When medically appropriate, Dr. Christine McDonald utilizes an advanced treatment for allergies known as immunotherapy.

Immunotherapy is a treatment program in which an animal is injected with small doses of the allergen causing the itching and discomfort, while increasing the dosage over time to help build up a tolerance. Over time, pets can often experience relief and no longer have a serious reaction when exposed to the item that is causing them to itch.

If you would like to have your pet evaluated for immunotherapy, please give us a call at 985-845-4681. We look forward to welcoming you and your pet to the Madisonville Animal Hospital family.
